about
Acid jazz celebrate their 21st anniversary with a compilation of single releases from the 21st century.

Iconic east London indie label Acid Jazz celebrate their 21st birthday with a whole host of special releases. With Dig The New Breed, label boss Eddie Piller looks back at the single releases of the 21st century and chooses his favourites for this compi-lation.

Acid Jazz made their name with the Totally Wired series of compilations that mixed and matched a variety of musical styles to provide the ultimate party soundtrack – Dig The New Breed similarly showcases the label's love of a variety of different mu-sical styles: there's classic northern soul from the likes of Clem Curtis and the top 40 chart hit from Andy Lewis and Paul Weller: 'Are You Trying To Be Lonely?' There's classic covers like Duffy's ‘Mercy’ (from The Third Degree) and the outstanding mod version of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ (a sought-after rarity from Pleasure Beach). The compilation includes Brazilian samba folk jazz, breakbeat, UK hip-hop and the northern funk of Smoove and Jess Roberts. Even Steve Marriott's pre-Small Faces material makes an appearance.

In classic Acid Jazz style, the label embraces a myriad of genres on this compila-tion short, taking the listener on a musical journey but this time using only singles re-leased in the last ten years.
